It was a normal day at our P&C Insurance back-office processing unit of Vantage Agora. I told my team member to log into the remote desktop and check the number of incoming files. Just as she logged in, she realized that our customer Denny had logged into the system as well.
Denny immediately opened a word document in the remote desktop and typed – “I am pleased with what you are doing. You have been very good to work with. I can’t believe you are half a world away and helping me with my work.”
That’s when it dawned on me that we (VA) had become an integral part of not just Denny’s but many other customers’ professional lives. We were helping them get their work done sitting thousands of miles away and most of the times, not even realizing it.
We have never seen or met Denny, but that day I realized that, “we” as a team and as an organization had built a relationship of trust and goodwill and what’s exciting is that we are doing it “virtually”.
VA has gone virtual not just with our customers in the U.S, but also with our own employees.
Let me ask you a question. “How many times have you failed trying to get your team members to do something the organization believes in???” I have tried it without any tools and I have lost count of the number of times I have failed! I had tried everything possible from motivational speeches, to videos. Team outings to boot camps. Nothing seemed to work.
We then used our own tool! Club VA and were able influence or change our team’s attitude towards their work and the organization without you seeing them or talking to them in person!
Sounds unbelievable… Doesn’t it?!? Here’s something that happened a month ago.
We managed to influence one of our teams sitting several miles away to take part in an event that they probably never believed in by influencing them through our ‘Enterprise Social Platform’ Club VA. The team communicated and socially influenced the other team realize that they were simply missing out on something nice!
It was really that simple. Going virtual is a good thing. It worked for us and our customers using Club VA. If you are not virtual or using our Club VA, you are already behind.
